What is the role of an elder?

If we are going to submit to the leadership of another, I think that it is important to do so with the knowledge of who they are and what their role is in our lives.  The Bible is clear on the use and purpose of the Elder for the New Testament Church.  They are gifted uniquely for the glory of God and the benefit of the church.
